Olympics and cowboys and girls

The adults watched Olympics while the kids rode Spider, their trusty steed. Adlai sports cowboy boots and attempts to fix the t.v. for us.

Marshmallows, turtles and tigers

Grandma Jan came for a birthday celebration for Adlai's second birthday, bringing power tools and a bear birthday cake. Adlai installed himself next to a paw and methodically munched marshmallows while Kaya and Grandma put on all the "Happy Birthday" candles.

We missed a few face painting events so I decided to take things into my own hands. My first attempt was a My-Little-Pony at Kaya's request. It turned out better than the sea turtle shown here - I must research techniques. Adlai wanted to be a tiger and went roaring away before much paint could be applied to his face.

brain freeze and ice fog

Take a look at Adlai's expression - clearly it is still too cold for smoothies.

Kona and I brave the ice fog for a mid-day walk.

Adlai turns 2

He who hesitates

Here's my cake.
Everybody is expecting me to do something about the fire on my cake.

Daymond steps in and takes care of business. [Luckily Adlai is not too put out that he missed the opportunity.]

Cow mooing

The kids thought we clearly had suffered a lapse as parents. Not only did we uncharacteristically take them out after dark, we took them by boat to a loud western town, where we got ourselves locked into jail. What is more, we came face to face with Mr. Twister, a braying, snorting, long horn bull. Adlai buried his face in Patrick's shoulder and hung on for dear life. When we asked if he wanted to ride the bull, he emphatically shook his head no. Kaya was game to ride on the fake bull with me though. For weeks after Adlai would say, when asked about Rawhide, "cow mooing. No let the cow out of the cage."
