Hugs

Grandma Jan and Kaya share a hug at Allie's birthday party.

Meanwhile the boys manage the remote.

Adlai is getting at least 4 teeth at the same time but is his usual happy self.

Kaya takes the opportunity to relax in her "swimming pool."

Adlai's First Haircut

All in all it went much more smoothly than I had imagined. The poor guy was unsure of what was going on but sat in his little chair with a steering wheel and took it like a man.
The buzzing razor was an oddity but Adlai resigned himself to it after a few moments.

Here is his slightly concerned yet tolerant look.

The end product -- the spike stayed in for roughly 20 minutes but it was fun while it lasted!

the pink pirate

Auntie Jess sent Kaya a beautifully soft handmade robe with matching eye cover. Kaya kept asking what the eye patch was for and how she could use it. Initially she guessed it was a slipper. The parrot on Kaya's shoulder is a favorite with the kids. Grandma Jan decided a few Christmases ago that Patrick should not be without a parrot in his life. This parrot sings, talks, dances, repeats phrases, likes to be pet and demands food. It is light and motion sensitive. I have inadvertently used it to frighten Patrick out of his skin when he walks into a darkened room and turns on a light only to be greeted with a loud "whatcha doing?"

Harley driving drummer

Daddy and Kaya decided to make tough faces while they rode their Harley (the excercise bike) through the room.

Kaya then got down to business playing her new drums.

Auntie Bille, Uncle Ryan and Natasha sent Kaya a great rain jacket covered with horses. Kaya declares, "Kaya likes horses."

Caught white handed

Grandma Maihaa brought Kaya an ice cream cake with a horse for Kaya's actual birthday.

Adlai was supposed to be smiling for a family photo but instead we caught him nabbing the candle on film.

Kaya was mildly shocked. Adlai was curious about the white stuff on his fingers.

Kaya calls Adlai "a little mischief." I wonder why.

I'll Huff and I'll Puff

Kaya successfully blew out two of her three candles with one big breath.

The last candle took another try.
And another try.
And about 6 more tries before it finally went out. That's a lot of boyfriends. Mommy and Daddy better watch out!

Kaya's Birthday

Aunt Pam was able to visit and help us celebrate Kaya's third birthday. Unfortunately we had to cancel her party because she was sick. Kaya was a trooper though. She was very excited about decorating her angel food cake with little teddy bears and placing three candles on top.

All the animals

Kaya takes good care of all her animals. They get routine checkups, eat meals, have their diapers changed, enjoy tea parties and join her on the couch for naps.

Adlai, never one to attempt things by halves, has taken to running, pivoting, stepping over obstacles and teetering to regain his balance in addition to plain old walking. He also likes carrying objects around and throwing them.
