Competition pod
A mom and escort dip under our boat.
Sailor Patrick.
Sailor Kaya.
A competition pod of at least 4 humpbacks mills about.

Getting mugged
They call it "getting mugged" when the boat cuts its engines and the humpbacks swim up to you. Look carefully and you can see most of the whale underwater next to the boat. The pectorals have the most white.
All aboard
We set off in the early morning for a whale watching tour with Trilogy.
A mother and calf swim just outside Lahaina harbour.
I was happily surprised that my children both have good sea legs, healthy appetites, and no sea-faring apprehension.

house of the sun
Lulled by the perfect temperatures at sea level, we forgot warm gear for 10,000 feet. We improvised with beach towels. Thank goodness for Auntie Melynda's soft carriers!
Pit stops
An expansive view from the heart of the island.
Our son made many pit stops on the long windy highway to the crater.
